After 25+ years in new home sales and leadership, Guy has discovered that the best leaders aren't the ones with all the answers. They're the ones who ask the right questions, care more about their people's success than their own comfort, and have the courage to admit when they don't know something.
The Journey
Guy's leadership education began with a spectacular failure as a first-time manager (you'll read about it in Chapter 10). Since then, he's helped build and lead sales teams across eight states, from startup operations to Fortune 500 divisions. Along the way, he's learned that spreadsheets don't manage people—relationships do.
When He's Not Writing or Leading
Based in Scottsdale, Arizona, Guy continues to work with sales teams while enjoying the desert lifestyle (mostly from indoors during summer!) When he's not developing leaders or working with sales teams, you'll find him actively seeking personal leadership building seminars, making genuine connections at industry events, and continuously refining his approach based on what he learns.
An accomplished instructor and people-promoter with proven expertise across multiple leadership frameworks, Guy believes the most powerful lessons come from spectacular failures transformed into wisdom. After more than two decades with companies like Woodside Homes, Beazer Homes, CalAtlantic, Ryland Homes and others, he's accumulated plenty of both—from the $15,000 grand opening disaster that attracted only seven visitors to the painful realization that making himself "irreplaceable" made him unpromotable.
These days, he's dedicated to helping other leaders accelerate their development by learning from his journey. His message remains simple: invest in your people, maintain perspective, and recognize that leadership is an ongoing evolution. He's been known to say, borrowing from his mentor Beth's wisdom: "Leadership doesn't have to be complicated. It's simply about creating space for others to excel—even if that means they eventually outgrow you."
Because that's the essence of leading with heart—it's not about perfection. It's about creating an environment where authenticity drives performance and where every team member feels valued enough to bring their best selves to work.
Why This Book Exists
The Heart in Leadership Answer Series exists because Guy wishes someone had told him at the beginning of his career that leadership isn't about being perfect—it's about helping others become the best versions of themselves. If you're ready to lead with heart instead of just authority, this book is for you.
Connect with Guy on LinkedIn, where he shares real leadership insights from the trenches—no corporate speak, just honest lessons from someone still learning alongside you.
